Reiki for Relaxation and Healing

This past week I completed my Reiki Master training. It was a profound experience for myself, the other students and for the Reiki Master who led the workshop.


I am often asked questions about Reiki. In particular, what it is, where it originates and what purpose it serves. I wanted to take some time to answer some of these questions for you. 


Q: What is Reiki?

A: It is a relaxation and healing technique done through touch or without touch. Warm and soothing energy flows from the hands into the client to release tension.


Q: Where did Reiki originate?

A: Its roots are in Japan. The earliest records have found a Japanese therapist by the name of Matiji Kawakami who created Reiki Ryoho in 1914. He also wrote a book in 1919 titled Reiki Healing and Its Effects (title translated to English). However, it is Mikao Usui that is often considered the creator of Reiki because of how Reiki became known to the western world. 


Q: What purpose does it serve?

A: Studies have found Reiki has supported individuals in their healing from skin problems, headaches, colds, flus, fatigue and insomnia. Reiki has also been used alongside psychotherapy to improve symptoms related to emotional trauma, anxiety, depression and much more.
